Column of Knowledge: Jewelry | By Amie Guarino

Keep the Faith…and Wear it Too

Jewelry has always been a way of expressing your personal style. And right now it’s particularly fashionable to use jewelry as a means of expressing or at least hinting at, your personal philosophy. Faith-based jewelry is hot and everything from traditional crosses to the misunderstood skull and crossbones are being worn as a way of symbolizing your beliefs, values, and life experiences.

While crosses and Star of David pendants have long been a mainstay in jewelry wardrobes, some unconventional motifs have gained popularity. For example, the skull and crossbones icon has often been associated with evil and negativity. But to many, it serves as a reminder to live life to the fullest. The lotus flower motif has also become popular in modern jewelry design. The lotus is often associated with new beginnings and the ability to rise above tough situations in life. Other symbols making their way into jewelry include flames, which are said to consume ignorance, and hearts, the universal emblem of love, friendship, intelligence, and courage. At the same time an effort is being made to rebuild New Orleans, the fleur de lis has made its way onto popular pendants and rings. Historically, the fleur de lis represents purity.

There are endless ways to make a statement with the latest trend in emblematic jewelry. You can choose from diamond-encrusted skull and crossbones, black sapphire crosses, or rose gold and pink sapphire fleur de lis! Let the symbols do the talking and be a true testament to your personal style.
