Enhancing the Wellness Experience

Living in a world of constant stress — worries about jobs, family, terrorist attacks, aging over-eating, and under-exercising — it is not surprising we go through our lives in a state of perpetual anxiety. What we need, we realize, is a cocoon. We want to be wrapped up in a program that takes total care of us, makes us feel healthy, fit and so radiant that all of our anxieties are removed.

Thus, The Enhancement Center on Washington Road in McMurray. Dedicated to the sensible principle that people can only feel better about themselves if they are treated as entire human beings, The Enhancement Center was constructed, designed, equipped and staffed on the basis of providing a total wellness/holistic experience. Richard Thomas conceived the Center as a retreat from the everyday bustle that would combine physical fitness with spa therapy and with access to medical treatment.

Within the 10,000-square-foot complex, Jacalyn Thomas and her husband spared no expense in equipping the Center for the purpose of enriching the wellness experience. “To us, a total wellness experience should include fitness through personal training and group exercise, complete day spa services for relaxing and enhancing, as well as unique medical treatments for rejuvenating and maintaining health” says Jacalyn.

The fitness studio is staffed with certified and highly experienced personal trainers. Following a workout that runs the gamut from body sculpting and bootcamp to spinning and ballroom dance, clients move on to the spa. Depending on time available (book an hour or an entire day), clients enjoy an almost unbelievable range of facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, saunas and body wraps. Every spa service is unique in that it offers the possibility of a side-by-side experience such as massage duets or facials done in tandem.

Then there’s the hot stone massage and the aromatherapy facial, and the body wraps with chocolate (are we talking Valentine’s Day gift, here?) and, during the summer, the “outdoor massage” conducted in the garden gazebo beside a softly gurgling waterfall and a lily pond full of koi.

With the total wellness experience not yet over, clients transfer to the nail care center with its varied manicures and pedicures for both men and women, done privately or in groups of twos or threes. And then on to a different kind of reward. Clients suffused with the glow of ultimate pampering gradually surface in the serene quietness of the serenity room, sipping herbal tea and listening to the strains of Chopin or Cole Porter. Sometimes the serenity room will be occupied by one or two people dressed in robes and slippers, other times by a party of 15 draped over the sofas and chairs.

The final complement to the Center is the unique blend of medical specialists present. Dr. Lawrence Biskin, a general surgeon, and his staff offer a variety of laser skincare treatments, micro-dermabrasion, botox, Restylane and permanent make-up to name a few.

Dr. Heidi Weinhold specializes in homeopathy and herbal remedies for those interested in a natural approach to wellness. And Swift Audiology has one of its four offices located at the Center for the convenience of its clients.

“We are proud to offer the community 30 highly qualified professionals ready to help folks escape everyday stress for a while and prepare them to face it again rejuvenated and looking better than ever.” Jacalyn’s suggestion: “Come experience and enjoy!”
