Bedners Greenhouse Celebrates Tenth Anniversary
Bedner Greenhouse in McDonald is pleased to announce that it has opened a brand new greenhouse this spring. The old greenhouse was torn down and a new one was built in its place, with many improvements.
The old greenhouse lasted from 1997 to 2005, but was never built to last. It was a wooden-framed structure with stone flooring, and about 9,000 square feet of space to display the homegrown plants.
The new building is an Atrium Vent Roof Style greenhouse, with 20,500 square feet of space. A weather station controls the roof for heating and cooling, allowing a much more comfortable environment, both for gardeners and the plants. The floor is now cement, allowing shopping carts in the greenhouse The perennial plants are under roof, so customers can shop even in inclement weather. Bedner’s also has a larger area to offer trees and shrubs.
The new greenhouse will also allow Bedner’s to extend the season from April into October. Homegrown corn and pumpkins will be available. Monthly events and seminars are being planned.
