Joe Daddy’s Fires Up Great Flavors in Peters

Joe Daddy’s executive chef Chris Hopkins, server Amanda Hammett, and catering director Jesse Lindberg with a plate of perfect BBQ

At Joe Daddy’s Smoked Barbeque & Grill in Peters Township, you can get barbeque the way you like it – whether that’s mild, sweet, spicy, hot or something in-between.

Celebrating its one-year anniversary this month, combining great flavor with great service has made Joe Daddy’s a destination for BBQ lovers around the region.

Part of the restaurant’s recipe for success is its sauces, which are named after some of the world’s great BBQ hot spots. The Kansas City variety is sweet, in keeping with that city’s tradition of adding molasses to its sauce; the Memphis blend is mild, and the very hottest sauce available is named after, well, Hades, the mythological city that sits on a Lake of Fire. “We have eight signature sauces, developed by our executive chef, Chris Hopkins,” notes Jesse Lindberg, catering director. “The customers can choose which sauce to put on them when they place their order.”

All the meats have a dry rub on them. The pork, beef and turkey are smoked for at least 13 hours; the ribs and chicken are slow-smoked for 4 hours. Slow smoking the meats over hickory without sauce retains the moisture while cooking out the fat.

Joe Daddy’s menu choices range from cheese fries, fried okra and corn fritters, to homemade salad dressings like buttermilk ranch and lemon honey vinaigrette. “Stacker” sandwiches are piled high on garlic Texas toast and could include any of the smoked meats, burger or catfish. Salads, hot dogs, Sloppy Joes, wraps, and ribs are offered, along with side dishes of homemade cottage fries, sweet potato fries, collard greens, deep fried corn on the cob, coleslaw, baked beans, field peas, fried green tomatoes, homemade macaroni and cheese, baked potato, and cinnamon apples.

Homemade desserts include cheesecake, pecan pie, strawberry funnel cake, brownie sundaes and sweet potato pie. A kids’ menu is available. There are also daily specials, such as Monday, when a free dessert is given with any entrée or platter, or All You Can Eat Wing Night on Wednesday.

Generous portions of everything on the menu are available for take-out or sit-down in the restaurant, which seats 68. Cowboy hats hang from the walls. Each table has a wipe-away surface which allows customers to doodle with dry-erase markers while waiting for their meals.

Joe Daddy’s will be smokin’ and saucin’ their ribs and baked beans at the Peters Township Community Day on June 30. Come on down to their booth and say howdy!
