What’s Hot in Jewelry
(Or Soon Will Be)

By Louis and Veronica Guarino

In June we attended our main buying show of the year, with the majority of our purchases to be delivered in the fall. Although this may seem too soon to be thinking of the holidays, clothing stores are already planning for next spring! Often, our customers ask us what we see as the trends in jewelry whenever we return from a show.

Following is a list of some definite must-haves:

Wrist Awareness- Bracelets, skinny and wide, made of gold with rubber and even gold with wood are especially fashionable adorned with tiny charms like leaves and beads. The key is to wear them in layers of texture and style.

The Skinny on Ears- Long earrings, stiletto and dangles lead the pack this year. In silver or gold, with or without diamonds or with increasingly popular colored briolette cut stones (they look like faceted teardrops), these earrings elongate a women’s neck and have a sexy swingy feeling to them.

Cocktail Hour- Right hand rings, always a fashion essential but receiving more attention the past few years, are emerging as a bold statement this season. Think of those 1980s cocktail rings only more refined. Big flashy colored stones are also a new approach. These rings can go from Giant Eagle to super formal. Pass the dirty martinis!

Gold Rush- Yellow metal is back in a big way this year. Not Mr. T-looking chains but light open link designed necklaces that can be worn alone or in multiples. Lariats, chokers, lockets and hearts all have a part in the layered look. This season, all that glitters is gold!

In closing, we have a special event scheduled for next month. Jay Strongwater will be in our store September 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for an exclusive signing event. He will sign new as well as pre-sale items. We are honored to have Jay for this one day occasion. Stop in and give him a warm welcome that makes Pittsburgh so famous.
